Local Fundraising: mapping community resources

Содержание

Local fundraising starts with understanding the resources already available in your community.

Every project needs financial support, but also in-kind contributions, knowledge, spaces, and visibility. By mapping your local ecosystem, you can identify untapped resource sources and build stronger, more sustainable projects.
Task:
Take a sheet of paper and some drawing materials. Imagine your community as an ecosystem with many actors connected to each other. Follow these steps:
  1. Define your funding goals. What resources do you need that are not covered, or not covered enough, by international funding?
  2. Define your project context. For example: “We are planning a youth exchange on intercultural learning through outdoor activities and sports.”
  3. Map at least 10 key actors in your community. Think of individuals, organisations, companies, institutions, or informal groups. Write down the resources they can offer.
  4. Sort their potential support into categories: financial, in-kind, knowledge, visibility.
  5. Analyse their interests and motivations. Why would they support you with spaces, equipment, food, finances, experience, or media visibility?
  6. Draw a stakeholder matrix with two axes: “Easy to reach – Hard to reach” and “Low potential outcome – High potential outcome.” Place your actors on the grid to visualise where to focus your first steps.

Here is an example of how to make such mapping

Endorsement:
This activity is endorsed by NGO Awero and Erasmus+ programme partners.
This activity supports youth workers’ competence development in the “Managing Resources” area. Managing Resources means knowing how youth projects and organisations work, and what affects them, especially when working with other countries or online. It includes understanding different leadership styles, helping young people stay motivated, keeping them safe, and making a positive difference in the community. It also means knowing about laws, data rules, and how to plan and use money and other resources, especially for online activities that need more support.

This activity creation is co-funded by the EU Erasmus+ programme.
